Toto was briefly in Bratislava, Slovakia, for a flight to London which made me realize that all TotoTravels.com readers should know the difference between Slovakia and Slovenia. The two countries' names certainly sound very similar. In fact, there are only two letters different, but in actuality, the countries are quite different and have completely different histories and languages. Slovakia used to be half of Czechoslovakia until the two countries decided to split in a friendly way on January 1, 1993 into the Czech Republic and Slovakia. Bratislava is the capital of Slovakia.
Slovenia, as you just read in Chapter 3, was part of Yugoslavia. Slovenia's capital is Ljubljana.
If you look on the map, they are both in the same part of the world, Central Europe. Both are relatively new countries with old cultures. Slovakian people speak the Slovakian language. Slovenian people speak their own Slovenian language.
So it is important that you show just how educated you are by knowing the difference between Slovenia and Slovakia.
